12 April … K for kawit

for Kawit

Kawit in Cavite city south of Manila is a historic town.  Kawit translated in English means “hook”.  It probably is derived from the topographical contour of the province of Cavite that is hooked-shape.

It was at the balcony of the home of the first president, Emilio Aguinaldo, of the Philippine Republic located in Kawit where the country’s independence and sovereignty from the Spanish reign was proclaimed on the 12th of June almost a hundred twenty five years ago.  Today, the home of Aguinaldo in Kawit is an interesting travel destination because of the history and pride it invokes of the Filipino’s love for freedom and country.
