John 15, verse 5:
“Yes, I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in Him, He bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
Those of us who believe that Jesus was sent because the Father in heaven loves us so that Jesus can die in our place for the forgiveness of our sin and accept this truth will begin to abide in HIM who is the source of life. The image portrayed is that the Father is the vine and we are the branches who remain in Him; thus, detached from this truth, we can do nothing.
Abiding is truly adhering to what we believe is the truth of God in order that we can walk in the path of righteousness guided by the love of God through the life of His Son, Jesus. Not abiding will bring us back to darkness blinded from the light of obedience, lost in the depths of the world and focused on trying to survive the fear of the unknown.
Thus, upholding truth and abiding will allow us to do anything completely in obedience to the will of God.
Yes, Lord, by Your grace alone, please allow me to abide in You for always.
